News: Tamron Offers Free Online Photography and Filmmaking Master Classes

If you’re looking for a little creative inspiration or a chance to learn something new, Tamron Americas has a resource worth bookmarking. Tamron University offers free online master classes led by professional photographers and filmmakers, with topics ranging from portraits and storytelling to wildlife, landscapes and documentary filmmaking.

The courses are self-paced, so you can fit a lesson around your own schedule. No rushing home for a webinar or trying to work out which time zone you’re supposed to be in.

More than camera settings

According to Tamron’s announcement, the aim is to give participants more than technical instruction. The courses also explore creative decisions, practical business advice and the personal journeys of the people behind the camera.

That’s something I appreciate about photography education. Knowing your settings is useful, but understanding why someone chooses a particular approach can help you make more confident decisions in your own work.

Thirteen classes to explore

As of 28 October 2026, Tamron’s announced lineup includes:

  • The Art of Storytelling with Erica Robinson

  • Nature Photography with Kurt Gardner

  • Commercial and Celebrity Portraiture with Hernan Rodriguez

  • The Art of Photographing Birds with David Akoubian

  • Cinematic Halloween Horror with Jonathan Thorpe

  • Capturing the Night Skies with Sean Parker

  • The Creative Photographer with Michael Gilbert

  • Travel Photography in Mexico with Armando Flores

  • Intimate Landscapes with Ian Plant

  • Photographing the Wild West with Lisa Langell

  • Mindful Photography with Kenna Klosterman

  • Documentary Filmmaking with André Costantini

  • Travel and Landscape in Ireland with Ken Hubbard, the newest addition

There’s plenty here to tempt photographers into exploring a different subject or approach. Naturally, the cinematic horror and creative portrait options caught my attention. Given my love of a moody set and a little theatrical storytelling, that probably surprises absolutely nobody.

New: Travel and Landscape in Ireland

Ken Hubbard’s latest course heads to Ireland, covering landscapes, street photography, architecture and photographing people. It also includes trip planning, gear choices, image organisation and post-processing.

The free course contains ten lessons and approximately 90 minutes of video, making it a manageable starting point if travel photography is on your creative wish list.

Watch a lesson, then try something

My suggestion? Choose one course that interests you, then give yourself a small photography project to put something you’ve learned into practice. It’s easy to collect tutorials. The useful part happens when you pick up the camera.

You can browse the classes and enrol through Tamron University. Tamron says more courses will be added over time.
