Still Using an Older Luminar? This Legacy Offer Might Be Worth a Look
If you’ve been using Luminar for a while, you might remember Luminar 4, Luminar AI, Luminar 3, or perhaps you go even further back. You might also have been an Aurora HDR user.
I certainly remember those earlier versions and watching Luminar change quite dramatically over the years.
Now Skylum has launched a special Luminar Legacy offer for photographers who own eligible older Skylum products, giving them the opportunity to move to the current Luminar Desktop Only plan for $59, reduced from $129.
So, if you’ve got an older version sitting on your computer and have been wondering what the current Luminar looks like, this could be worth checking out.
Luminar has changed quite a bit
If the last version you used was Luminar 4 or Luminar AI, you may find today's Luminar rather different.
Over the years we’ve seen more AI-assisted editing introduced, alongside the traditional editing tools. There are tools for portrait work, masking, relighting, removing unwanted objects, enhancing skies and landscapes, creative colour work and much more.
More recently, Luminar has also undergone another substantial redesign.
The workspace is cleaner, key controls have been brought together and tools, edits and presets are much easier to move between.
I particularly like that I don't have to constantly jump around different parts of the program. The whole editing experience feels much more cohesive.
Do you need to replace Lightroom or Photoshop?
No, and I think this is worth mentioning.
I still use Lightroom Classic and Photoshop extensively. Luminar hasn't replaced either of them for me.
Instead, I use Luminar as another tool in my editing kit.
Sometimes it's simply quicker for a particular job. Sometimes I want one of its AI tools. Other times I'm looking for something a little more creative and just want to experiment.
I've always been a big believer in using the tool that gets you where you want to go rather than worrying about which piece of software you're supposed to use.

Is it worth upgrading?
This really depends on how you edit.
If you're perfectly happy with an older version of Luminar and it still does everything you need, there's no reason to upgrade simply because there's a special price.
But if you've been curious about some of the newer tools, particularly the newer AI-assisted editing features, or you've been following my recent Luminar tutorials and wondering how your older version compares, $59 makes this an interesting opportunity to come back and see how much has changed.
