Witchy Women, Water & Light

Witchy Women, Water & Light

Fog, florals, and trusting TTL

This session came together through atmosphere rather than instruction.

Working again with Skye Medusa, the brief was loose but intentional. Dark lace, crystal crowns, water, florals, and a quiet, witchy energy that felt timeless rather than theatrical.

The lighting setup was deliberately simple. The Neewer Z3 Flash stayed on-camera and set to TTL for the entire shoot. I wanted responsive light that could keep up as Skye shifted expression and posture without pulling me out of the moment to chase settings. [Read the full review here]

TTL gets a bad rap for being “lazy,” but when used thoughtfully it can be incredibly freeing. It allowed me to concentrate on timing, emotion, and connection, rather than technical micromanagement.

The Telesin Mini Fogger added another layer entirely. Used gently, the fog softened transitions and created separation without overpowering the scene. It introduced unpredictability, which I welcome. Fog doesn’t obey, and that’s exactly why it works.

What I loved most about this shoot was how calm it felt. No rush. No forcing moments. Just light responding, atmosphere drifting, and a subject fully present in the frame.

It’s a good reminder that creative portraits don’t need complicated setups. They need trust, intention, and the courage to let the image unfold rather than be built piece by piece.
